The U.S. oil infrastructure is the product of four decades of rising imports and falling domestic supply, according to Businessweek. As those trends have reversed over the last few years, America’s network of pipelines has failed to keep pace. Designed in part to ferry oil and refined gasoline from the coasts to the interior, those pipelines are now ill-equipped to handle the enormous amount of crude gushing from shale reserves in North Dakota and Texas. Which is why so much of that oil ends up trapped in the central Oklahoma town of Cushing, the primary crude oil storage hub for the U.S.

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality will conduct a series of information sessions in May, to discuss with the public the proposed Keystone XL pipeline route corridor information that has been submitted by TransCanada. The four meetings will be located along the proposed corridor area.

Yesterday, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) held a technical workshop with industry operators to discuss BOEM’s heightened standards for offshore oil and gas exploration and development plans, share best practices and obtain industry feedback regarding the plan review process. The goals of the workshop were to promote operator compliance with BOEM’s heightened standards and to further increase the efficiency of BOEM’s plan review process. The workshop, which built on two other recent workshops held over the past year, attracted about 160 participants, representing more than 70 different companies.

A federal agency has granted a rehearing for a proposed pipeline from Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming to Colorado’s Front Range. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission announced Monday it will grant a rehearing for Aaron Million’s Wyco Power and Water Co., over the objections of environmental groups and Colorado Springs Utilities, according to the Pueblo Chieftain.
